How we clean your solar panels
Our revolutionary long-reach system which uses telescopic poles and a water pump system means we can access the most difficult of places with relative ease. This system enables us to offer excellent results.
We clean both roof and ground mounted solar panels, utilising our wide variety of cleaning equipment options to suit your PV systems needs.
The purified water is pumped along from our machines through the hoses to the water fed poles.
All our specialist soft brushes are specifically designed to clean solar panels.
Purified water & regular solar panel cleaning
Manufacturers DO NOT recommend the use of harmful chemicals or detergents to clean solar panels. However, they do advise regular solar panel cleaning using purified water, especially before the onset of summer and winter. Manufacturers also state that regular solar panel cleaning will preserve their limited warranty and help to maintain the optimum output performance of the solar panels.
The harshness of untreated water will leave marks behind on the solar panels containing mineral deposits, especially in hard water areas. Untreated water marks can actually attract dirt onto the solar panel as well as being an inefficient cleaning process.
Here at Goldcrest Maintenance, we only use purified water to clean your solar panels. This means that the minerals have been removed from the water using two processes. Firstly reverse osmosis, this is then followed by de-ionisation, leaving behind a purified water.
We have NO need for harmful and abrasive chemicals or detergents, therefore offer an Eco-Friendly cleaning process. This is delivered to you both safely and efficiently with excellent results, ensuring you are getting the very most from your investment.

How often?
How often should I get them cleaned?
Every solar array is unique and depending upon different environmental factors, the recommended frequency of each clean will vary.
Special attention should be given to panels situated in dustier areas, for example; next to a main road, by the sea and on or near farmland etc. These solar panels will require more frequent cleaning as the dust build up will be considerably more.
Bird faeces and lichen is also a huge problem...
When solar panels remain dirty for long periods of time, they suffer from modular shading, in addition to this, permanent module staining may also occur and the larger the array, the bigger the loss of return is for the owner!
Our experience is that residential solar arrays require an annual or even a bi-annual clean, with agricultural, city and coastal PV systems being the dirtiest, therefore requiring a more frequent cleaning schedule.
Many clients contact us before their clean is due because they are experiencing a drop in output due to their systems environment, especially following long periods of damp weather which increases lichen and mould growth hindering performance.

Airborne dust particles, sticky tree and plant sap, Algae, lichen, soot and bird droppings are just a few of the things that can contribute to a build-up of dirt on your solar panels.
Accumulation creates shading on the solar panels and will prevent sunlight reaching the cells. This results in poor system perfomance, loss of efficiency and a loss of financial return for the owner and investor of solar energy.

This is a myth! When a solar panel is called self cleaning, it tends to mean that the surface is hydrophobic; meaning water droplets cannot stick to the surface. In essence, these surfaces aren’t exactly self-cleaning and maintenance free.
They do reduce mineral residue that can block the sun reaching the cells, however, in a dusty environment a single solar cell within the panel can become inefficient and this will affect the performance of the rest of the cells within the panel. As they are wired in series, if one cell is shaded, then the output of the entire panel is lower as a result.
Rain alone is not enough to ensure solar panels remain free from a build-up of dirt throughout one year, let alone a lifetime.

NEVER attempt to clean solar panels yourself.
There is always a risk of damage and inefficient cleaning. It is advisable to use professional solar panel cleaners to undertake the cleaning of your solar panels, as they will be fully trained, have the correct equipment and be properly insured to carry out the job.
